The Egypt State Information Service has news of Dr Zahi Hawas’s promotion:
President Hosni Mubarak issued a republican decree on Friday 30/10/2009 promoting Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) Secretary General Zahi Hawwas to the rank of deputy minister, a Culture Ministry source said.
